FinderOuter tool helps to restore lost Bitcoin wallets

Recently, software engineer and Reddit user u/Coding_Enthusiast created the tool he named “FinderOuter”, which helps to restore lost Bitcoins using partial key data.

It is not the first tool of the kind, but this one simplifies the meticulous process, in case the Bitcoin wallet data is corrupted. FinderOuter interface is very simple that enables one to enter partial Base-58 or Base-16 private key information. As a result, the entire key gets restored.

The open-source tool is available to download on Github. The engineer plans to add more features, for example, the ability to use partial information for restoring BIP-based phrases and passwords.

And this is especially relevant, because, according to some estimates, about 25 percent of all existing Bitcoins are currently unavailable.

Though restoring missing private keys is almost impossible to do without partial information, not all cases are hopeless. For example, computer glitches could cause the funds loss, but there are tools, both hardware and software, that can restore damaged hard drives.

Besides, files considered to be corrupted can often be easily recovered. Some hardware and operating systems can read data believed to be hopelessly lost. The same is true about the deleted files because tools designed to restore erased data have been existing for decades.

Actually, any crypto-investment strategy must begin with the proper fund storing. The best way to restore lost Bitcoins is to never lose them. Unfortunately, cryptocurrency mishandling with is quite common. For a long time, cold storage, typically hardware wallets, was considered the best protection against losses. Still, restoring phrases should be recorded and stored in a safe place. Cryptocurrency should not be stored on exchanges, also, wallet data should not be stored on the hardware without making its backup.
